Ashford Creative Arts Department Prove Their Superhero Credentials at Planet Folkestone Film, TV & Comic Con

Wednesday, November 2016

Our Creative Arts department were a key presence at the recent Planet Folkestone Film, TV &Comic Con, held at the Folkestone Academy on the 7th May.

The event, a day-long celebration of multi-genre entertainment, featured celebrity special guests, exhibitors and famous props. Amongst them was the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones, which visitors were able to be photographed sitting in, then take home the resulting souvenir photo. All photographic equipment for this was supplied by Ashford College and our students were on hand to provide the technical assistance.

The College also had an interactive stand in the exhibits area to showcase the different courses on offer. Our Art & Design department assisted with a stand for visitors to block-print their own artwork, whilst our Fashion department offered expert advice to visitors on designing their own sci-fi and comic character outfits. In addition, the Music Technology department offered attendees a chance to create their own mix of sci-fi music.

A member of the public commented, “I’d like to pass my compliments to the art students on the superhero block printing table and the music technology engineer who helped my son with the sci-fi music scoring. All were very friendly and helpful and a credit to your college.”

Other exhibits on display included the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future and a working Dalek.

The event is supported by The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust, and raises money for East Kent Hospitals Charity Dementia Appeal.
